Glendale is a great town to call home. From the Whistle Stop restaurant to the Rustic Redemption boutique, the town has charm bursting from its very seams. That is why so many people who call Glendale home stay and never leave. Not far from Louisville, it is the perfect combination of small town suburban charm and today’s conveniences. The seasonal weather means that there is sunshine in the summer, snow in winter and plenty to do in each and every month of the year.
One such activity that one can do in and around the town of Glendale is the 40-year-old Glendale Crossing Festival which began in 1976 in celebration of the centennial and has been a part of local culture ever since. The Festival is always held in autumn when the weather is turning cool and the sweaters are coming out of the closet. Every year, on the 3rd Saturday in October, the town hosts art, craft and food booths. There are hundreds of booths every year. The event also includes a fun and festive parade with a wide array of floats and tons of community spirit.
The downtown area is fun in any season but is particularly inviting in the spring time when the birds are chirping and the flowers are blooming. The local shop by the name of the Rustic Redemption capitalizes on that small town feel and the owners have created a unique and special shop with many beautiful things that you just won’t find anywhere else. There are often antiques, artisan goods and prairie style painted furniture pieces. The Whistle Stop is a family restaurant as well as a country store and is fun for the whole family. But, the food is not to be ignored. It is some of the best home cooking in the state.
